Karnataka farmers in distress as crops in Cauvery basin wither – The Economic Times

The Cauvery water dispute has impacted crops in about 50% of 5.12 lakh hectares in Karnataka’s Cauvery basin. Following non-availability of water, crops have withered, leading to fears of large-scale financial distress among farmers in the state.The news comes even as Karnataka faces the ire of the Supreme Court for not following its order on releasing the directed quantum of water for Tamil Nadu’s agricultural needs.The crop yield is set to drop drastically, as only 25% of total farm holdings have crops that can be saved.
