Gangadhar, working president, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, told the meeting that if 2 tmcft water is released from Bhadra reservoir now to Tungabhadra reservoir, the standing crops in the command area of Bhadra reservoir will dry up in summer owing to scarcity of water.The economic worth of the standing crops in command area of Bhadra reservoir is much more than the cotton and chilli crops in the command area of Tungabhadra reservoir, he said. H.R. Basavarajappa, KRRS general secretary, said that diversion of 7 tmcft water reserved in Bhadra reservoir for drinking needs should not be allowed at any cost. M.J. Appaji, MLA for Bhadravati, said that the farmers in command area should abide by the directions issued by Bhadra CADA against cultivation of summer crops.
